How to use The ReachDeck Toolbar

Exciting news!

We’ve added speech, reading and translation support to The Resources Hub!

The ReachDeck Toolbar (previously known as Browsealoud) is part of our new accessibility software from Texthelp to help improve our digital accessibility and inclusion.

The Toolbar helps to make our content more widely available by removing some of the barriers that could be faced by those living with rare conditions while on the web.

The ReachDeck Toolbar gives patient group leaders a choice in how they want to access The Hub’s content in a way that best suits them.

How do I access The ReachDeck Toolbar?

Can you see the orange launchpad in the top righthand corner of your screen?

It’s the orange circle with a pair of white headphones on it.

Click this circle to launch the ReachDeck Toolbar!

You’ll quickly see the Toolbar pop up on the top of your screen.

You will need to launch the ReachDeck Toolbar like this each time you want to access its features on desktop, tablet and mobile.

If you’re using the toolbar on your tablet, then you’ll find the toolbar at the top of your screen just like you would if you were using a desktop.

You can access every feature of the ReachDeck toolbar when using a desktop or tablet device.

Mobile

If you’re using the toolbar on your mobile device, then you’ll find a simplified version of the toolbar at the bottom of your screen.

You can have the text read aloud or translated into over 100 languages.

Why accessibility is important to Beacon

Globally, 1 in 7 people have a disability.

Many rare disease patients, families and leaders experience barriers when they’re on the web.

Those with visual impairments may struggle if information is only available in text format.

Likewise, those with cognitive disabilities might find it difficult to read information on a crowded web page.

These barriers can impact a person’s ability to browse and access online content and services.

We must keep in mind that only 1 in 10 people who would benefit from assistive technology have access to it.

By adding the ReachDeck Toolbar to The Resources Hub, we’re giving extra support to patient group leaders who may need it.

The addition of The ReachDeck Toolbar to The Resources Hub reflects our ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion.

We want to ensure that everyone can access our information online, regardless of ability or circumstance.

TextHelp’s ReachDeck Toolbar is helping us to achieve this goal.

We hope that you enjoy a better online experience while using The Resources Hub and our official Beacon: for rare diseases website.

We have proudly added The ReachDeck Toolbar to both!
