ABPI 2024 Code of Practice e-learning module

The Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority (PMCPA) has published a short, free e-learning course to aid understanding of the 2024 ABPI Code of Practice.

The ABPI Code is the research-based pharmaceutical industry’s commitment to operate in a professional, ethical and transparent manner for the benefit of patients and the public.

It reflects and goes beyond UK law.

During their careers, patient organisations, nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals may come into contact with people from the pharmaceutical industry for legitimate and essential reasons.

For example

A healthcare professional or patient organisation might be working with a company on disease awareness or developing a new medicine.

Or, a healthcare professional might speak with a company representative or ‘rep’ to learn about a new medicine.

Healthcare professionals and patient organisations might also attend meetings or educational events sponsored by a pharmaceutical company.

The ABPI Code applies to companies and not to patient organisations or healthcare professionals, but when these situations arise, it is helpful to be aware of the ABPI Code and the standards it demands of pharmaceutical companies.

These standards dictate how companies should conduct themselves in these relationships.

To access the e-learning, log into this portal and set a username and password.

You will also see that PMCPA webinars on the ABPI Code are also available on this platform.

These are more detailed and designed for individuals with a good understanding of the Code to learn about the changes in the recently launched 2024 edition.
